Flu Vaccine
The seasonal influenza campaign will commence in October 2011
It is intended to provide protection against the Flu virus that appears every year in the Autumn/Winter.
The cost of the vaccine is:
- €10 if given as part of a regular consultation
- €25 if you come in to the Clinic just to have the Seasonal Influenza (Flu) vaccine only.
Seasonal Influenza (Flu) vaccine is recommended for the following categories of people:
- Anybody aged 65 years or older
- Anybody with chronic illnesses requiring regular medical check-ups. Examples include:
- Chronic respiratory disease (asthma, cystic fibrosis)
- Chronic heart disease
- Diabetes
- Immunosuppression (due to medication, illness or a missing spleen)
- Chronic liver disease
- chronic neurological disease including multiple sclerosis
- hereditary and degenerative disorders of the central nervous system
- those with morbid obesity i.e. body mass index over 40,
- Anybody who lives with a person in section 2, just described above - i.e. in order to protect the vulnerable person from being infected by somebody who lives with them.
- ALL pregnant women - vaccine can be given at any stage of pregnancy.
- children with any condition (e.g. cognitive dysfunction, spinal cord injury, seizure disorder, or other neuromuscular disorder) that can compromise respiratory function especially those attending special schools/day centres
- people who have close, regular contact with pigs, poultry or water fowl.
